Born in Jos, Nigeria, I spent the first 18 years of my life as a missionary kid. I returned to Texas for college, receiving a BA in Elementary Education from Dallas Baptist University. After teaching 4th grade ESL in Texas for 4 years, my Australian husband and I moved to Telluride in 2003. Starting out in seasonal jobs, we quickly put down roots by purchasing a home in Norwood. I first worked at the Telluride library for 1 year and then became the District/HS Librarian for the Norwood School District where I worked for 5 years. During this time, I earned my Masters Degree in Educational Media (School Librarianship) from UNC Greeley.  I began working as the Library Director of the Norwood library in 2010. These have been exciting and rewarding years, during which time I have had the honor to serve the community in many ways including sitting on the boards of the Prime Time Leadership board, Chamber of Commerce, Lone Cone Legacy Trust, WEEDC, and multiple initiatives. I also served on the board of the Colorado Library Consortium, a state-wide agency providing continuing education, cooperative purchasing, regional consulting, and ILS management to libraries all over the state.

Now that the new library facility has been completed, I am excited to see it used by the local and regional community in new and creative ways which bring more opportunities to our citizens.

Any item that patrons are unable to find in the AspenCat catalog, she will gladly search and find in other libraries. It is delivered to the library and you are notified when it is ready for pickup. She has been working for the library since 2002 and enjoys the challenges that library science has as it evolves with constant changes in technology. Cataloging is her true passion, and she is always excited to see a new box of books come through the door. She also processes all donations to the library, so don’t hesitate to call the library to set up a time for drop off during business hours.

I have lived in the Telluride region for a little over 30 years and in Norwood for 11 years. Originally I am from northern California, Grass Valley. I graduated from California State University Sacramento with a B.A. in Social Sciences. I also attended Fort Lewis College in Durango to attain a Colorado Secondary level teaching credential. In 2019, I retired from a thirteen year job working for the San Miguel County Commissioner’s Office. I love working at the new Lone Cone Library and look forward to meeting all of the current and future library patrons. I adore reading and learning new things.

I was born in Norwood in 1984 and have lived here off and on since then.   It keeps drawing me back. 🙂

I have a very diverse and broad spectrum of experience professionally.  From working in the food and service industry for over 10 years in various positions, I run my own small business that offers a variety of services from autobody restoration to computer repair and IT services.  I’ve climbed and trimmed trees in Telluride and Grand Junction, performed live music performances and plays across Colorado, as well as prepared and served food to and for many in the West End.

We have an amazing community that does its best to look out for each other.  I can’t count the times I’ve seen community members helping each other, strangers, and animals just in the last year.  So many people have utilized the resources of our community to expand and share so much wealth of knowledge and experience to help each other.

The most rewarding part of working at the library is having the ability to help people that come in, knowing that I have a great team to support my efforts, and working alongside other co-workers who are just as (if not more) dedicated.

My abridged biography begins as a 5th generation Colorado native (yes non-fiction) and I am here in Norwood for romance and mystery. As an avid astrologer I love the Dark Sky Initiative and checking out our immense starlit, Norwood nights. I also love our ol’-western town characters and renewing serenity here in our down home appeal. I earned my art degree from Western State University in Gunnison, Colorado and became an action sports/world travel photographer and art gallery owner in Taos, New Mexico. I returned to Colorado in 2006 (yes-over due!) and spent the latter part of my 20’s, 30’s….& 40’s working in and studying the healing arts, healing movement modalities and language arts. My life is a cross reference enjoyment of gardening, fine arts, community service, birdwatching, peaceful silence (only to be interrupted by bird song), houseplants, friendship, family, working and culinary arts. I look forward to meeting you here at the Lone Cone Library.

I moved to Norwood in 2001, when I was just 11 years old. I graduated Norwood Public School in 2008. Shortly after, I settled down and started a family. I moved away for a brief period of time but quickly realized that I will always be a small town girl at heart and found my way back home. I have two kids, and raising teenagers should be classified as a full time job by itself! In what little free time I have, I love to read. (Yes, perfect job choice!) I also love watching movies – I am a huge Marvel fan. I also enjoy scrapbooking and spending time in the woods on occasion. I am excited to be a part of the family here at the library. I love my community and believe that the library is a invaluable resource. Working here allows me to engage with the community and lend a helping hand wherever I am needed.

Hello!! I am so excited to join the crew at the Lone Cone Library.  Was asked to introduce myself to everyone, which is not always easy writing about your own life, but here is my attempt.  I grew up in rural Eastern Colorado (the Kansas part of Colorado where a mirage on the horizon is actually the mountains and you have to drive 20 minutes to find the one tree).  This was on a family ranch raising horses and cattle.  Fun fact is that Rodeo was my “sport” in high school. Yep, I’m a cowgirl. I left that lifestyle not on purpose but with a purpose to “save the world,” majoring in International Environmental Policy and Spanish Linguistics.  This led me to South America where I spent a year studying and then returned to work for another 6 months for an internship in Paraguay helping at a high school that helped kids learn the skills for organic farming.  I returned to the States after my internship without a specific direction and after a few different jobs, ended up in Breckenridge, Colorado for another internship – this time to learn to teach people with various disabilities to ski and snowboard in adaptive recreation.  That was in 2007, (yep – I’m old!) and have been working on and off in that field up until this past winter when my daughter Charlie Ophelia was born.  Being a seasonal job, I held various other jobs through the years: Outward Bound instructor, raft guide, community service and outdoor adventure instructor in Shenzhen, China, immersion preschool instructor in Taiyuan, China, ranch-hand/grass hay farmer, catering server… The list can go on.  So I would say a Jane of many trades, master of none perhaps.  About 5 years ago, I decided to go back to school and got my MS in Nonprofit Administration, with a focus on Development. My husband is Ian Smith and he is on the Forest Service wildland fire crew here in Norwood.  We love playing outside in the wonderful San Juan Mountains and western Colorado Desert with our 2 dogs and now our daughter Charlie. Always interested in getting out for a relaxed day climbing, or hiking, or biking, or skiing, or for a paddle!!

I have lived in Norwood for nine years and I love exploring our area and meeting new people. There is so much that the West End has to offer, and I am constantly amazed by this diverse area. My hobbies and passions include yoga, mountain biking with my dog, exploring outside, paddle boarding, swimming, skiing and soaking up the sunshine. When I’m not outside I enjoy cuddling up with my pets and reading historical fiction novels; of which my favorite author is Philippa Gregory. I love to cook for my friends, family, and neighbors and I am known to show up at their doors with jars of soup and tins of cookies.

I value my friends and neighbors that I have met along my journey here in Norwood and I am happy to be part of the community here at the Lone Cone Library. I am very enthusiastic about continued learning of adults and children of all ages, so you’ll find me reading to little ones, joining in on tween and teen activities, or introducing people to unique opportunities that our library provides to bring people together.
